Where Do Your Charity Contributions Go?
Many villagers may not be aware that the Maxey Blue Bell Charity Club has been organising events and giving away money to deserving causes since 1998.
In fact, in total we have given away a quite staggering £39,877.40* to numerous local charities and good causes. Not bad for a small village.
All this money has been given by the supporters of our events as well as raffles, lotto draws and direct donations given by individuals. Thank you.
The charity club was stared in 1998 when Adrian Cook (then landlord of the Blue Bell) wanted to raise money to give to the Macmillan Nurses fund as a thank you for support they gave to his partner Judith during her illness. Unfortunately, since that time, both Adrian and Judith have passed away, but the charity club lives on, and is still supported enthusiastically with many of the events becoming annual ‘must do’s’. There is the highly successful Maxey Car Show, to be held this year on August 18th, the Harvest Festival Auction, this year planned for October and, of course, The Boxing Day Clay Shoot.
When organising events, our main aim is to have fun while making money for the club. And judging by some of the photographs published on the village web site many people do enjoy themselves.
This year we had our biggest ever public response when we asked for nominations and suggestions as to where to distribute the funds collected. It is fitting that many of those that give time, effort or services as well as those taking part or spectating have had a direct influence on deciding where the fiunds should go. A fitting and virtuous circle.
This is my last
message as the Chair of the Charity Club. It's been an immensely rewarding experience but I feel it's time to hand over the reins to the 'next generation' of club member. I'd like to welcome Matt Thompson as our new Chair and wish him every success in his new post.
Pat Summers
