Many villagers may not be aware that the Maxey Charity Club has been organising events and giving away money to deserving causes since 1998.
In fact, in total we have given away a quite staggering £47,627.40* to numerous local charities and good causes. Not bad for a small village.
All this money has been given by the supporters of our events as well as raffles, lotto draws and direct donations given by individuals. Thank you.
The charity club was started in 1998 when Adrian Cook (then landlord of the Blue Bell) wanted to raise money to give to the Macmillan Nurses fund as a thank you for support they gave to his partner Judith during her illness. Unfortunately, since that time, both Adrian and Judith have passed away, but the charity club lives on, and is still supported enthusiastically with some events becoming annual ‘must do’s’. The highly successful Maxey Car Show, is to be held this year on 14 August 2010.
We are also looking for new ways to raise money, and any suggestions for fund-raising events that we can either help with or organise completely would be welcomed. Also if you know any deserving causes that could benefit from our help, please let us know - the only proviso is that the money is spent locally.
When organising events, our main aim is to have fun while making money for the club. And judging by some of the photographs published on the village web site many people do enjoy themselves.
